Garden description: In my garden I have both perennials and annuals. The work that is required for success can be challenging at times, but the end result is well worth it!
Who are the gardeners: My husband does a great job with maintaining our lawn and edging our beds. I am the “flower” person!
Why do you garden: I garden because I have love flowers and appreciate their beauty!
How has gardening impacted you during this time: Because of the pandemic and not heading to the gym three days a week and engaging in other activities I have actually taken more time with my gardens and the results have been positive.
What do you have in your garden? Some perennials that I have are daylilies, Shasta daisies, liatris, tall phlox, ground cover phlox, dianthus, bleeding heart, etc. The annuals that I usually plant are begonias, Sunpatiens, creeping Jenny, coleus, marigolds, etc. This year I planted a different begonia called “Big Red”. It has done very well and the plants are huge! I also decided to try growing a container tomato plant this year. In the past I have not been very successful with this endeavor. So far this year the tomato plant looks great and has nice looking tomatoes on the vine. Now they just need to turn red!
Do you have any problems with disease or pests? If so, how are you dealing with this problem? Of course, we deal with the Japanese beetles. I have two beetle bags and they do a pretty good job. Recently, I found them on my two trailing geraniums and I ended up spraying them with Sevin and removing the chewed up leaves and they are doing ok!
