Terroir and the Power of People Working with Plants
A Collaborative Wine Tasting Featuring Swigg and Ouro Wines at the Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH)
Date and time: Saturday, July 24; 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Location: DCH Gardens
Join DCH, Swigg Wines, and Sam Anderson of Ouro Wines for an educational wine tasting collaboration that will focus on "natural wines" and will highlight the phenomenon of “terroir” and how a region's robust ecosystem affects everything from the food we eat and the wine we drink to the health and connection of our communities. Guests will taste dynamic wine selections from Swigg and Ouro's portfolios and will discuss the difference between natural wines as opposed to those produced in factory-like productions. Swigg Wines and Sam Anderson of Ouro will also highlight how natural winemaking allows for the concept of "terroir" -- a term used to describe the big picture of how it is that a wine can be a window into a specific vineyard site, weather pattern, soil composition and the critical role that farmers and winemakers play in bringing their products to market. Discussion will ensue as to why these wines are so incredibly lively, delicious and how to best pair with food and about the underlying flavor notes and regional provenance of each wine. Afterwards, guests will be treated to tours of DCH's public gardens, a vital green space which serves the urban environment and is a direct reflection of community influences. Learn about the factors that directly informed the plant palette of the gardens and plans for the future. This is a rain or shine event. Live Music by The Seedlings.
