Garden description: Three years ago we decided we didn’t want to cut the grass in our 50 x 60 foot backyard so that winter we killed the grass and started planning our garden. The next summer we dug the hole and work began. What we have tried to create is a wonderful retreat where we can enjoy a shade garden, a perennial garden, our fish and turtles with 3 small waterfalls and a few places around to sit . We planted quite a few shrubs, two trees, many perennials, and a few annuals. The soil here is so rich that everything grew quickly and in two years we have a pond garden that looks like it’s been here for years. It’s a perfect place for morning coffee or afternoon happy hour.
Who are the gardeners: We are. Self taught, and still learning a lot. We both love working in the garden and making changes to improve it .
Why do you garden: To keep our sanity in this crazy world. And because we thoroughly enjoy it.
How has gardening impacted you during this time: As I said, it keeps us sane. Since we can’t go out much, it gives us much more time to work and enjoy the garden.
