Garden description: What began as a small sun garden against the house slowly expanded along the deck and then into the shady, wet areas under the red maples. Now I have both shade and sun gardens connected with stone paths and walls- some still under construction.
Who are the gardeners: I am the gardener but my husband helps transform my ideas to reality- especially with respect to the rocks and the steps.
Why do you garden: Gardening is my happy place- I love the beauty, the peacefulness, the nature I feel part of, and the challenge of creating something beautiful.
How has gardening impacted you during this time: The garden has been a peaceful and safe distraction from current events.
What do you have in your garden? Baptisia, helenium, shasta, black-eyed susans, phlox, coreopsis, roses, clematis in the sun. Hosta, epimedium, ferns, japanese primrose, rodgersia, hydrangea, hakon grass, scutelleria, spigelia, thalictrum, astilbe, etc. in the shade
Do you have any problems with disease or pests? If so, how are you dealing with this problem? Deer- I spray since I live in a development where deer fences aren’t allowed.
